Kamaru Usman underwent knee surgery on Tuesday.
The newly crowned UFC welterweight champion took care of nagging issues with the knee in a procedure done at a Philadelphia hospital, then gave a still-groggy greeting to his fans via Instagram as he was just coming around.
“I thought this was going to be like, I had knee surgery before, I thought this was going to be like that,” Usman said. “This ain’t that at all. At all. This sh*t different.”
Usman won the title with a dominant performance at UFC 235, taking the belt from Tyron Woodley via unanimous decision on scores of 50-45, 50-44, 50-44. That marked Usman’s 10th victory in as many UFC fights.
There’s no timetable yet on a return to the cage yet for Usman, who has made plain his desire to fight top contender Colby Covington, with whom he had an incident at a Las Vegas casino buffet following his victory over Woodley.
“I’ll be back in no time, and putting a beating on you know who,” Usman said.
