TUF 28 cast revealed featuring heavyweights and women’s featherweights

Former Invicta FC bantamweight title challenger Katharina Lehner will take part in the 28th season of The Ultimate Fighter

The 28th season of The Ultimate Fighter is being dubbed “Heavy Hitters” and it’s promising action in the largest male and female weight classes.

The UFC announced Wednesday the cast for TUF 28, which is set to feature eight heavyweights and eight women’s featherweights competing for a six-figure UFC contract. This will be the first time that TUF has hosted a women’s 145-pound tournament.

The coaches for the season are UFC middleweight champion and TUF: The Smashes winner Robert Whittaker, and top middleweight contender and TUF 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum. This will be the first time that two previous TUF champions have coached against one another on a domestic version of the long-running reality program.

Whittaker is expected to defend his title against Gastelum at a date to be determined later this year.

While the eight women will be fighting at 145 pounds throughout the season, the roster is composed primarily of fighters who have competed primarily at 135 pounds, including one-time Invicta FC title challenger Katharina Lehner, former Cage Warriors champion and Invicta standout Pannie Kianzad, and two-time UFC competitor Larissa Pacheco.

The heavyweight field is highlighted by recent Contender Series winner Josh Parisian, one-time LFA title challenger Maurice Greene, and Polish veteran Przemyslaw Mysiala.

TUF 28 is scheduled to premiere on Aug. 29 on FOX Sports 1, with The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale card taking place on Nov. 30 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
