An explosive matchup between streaking welterweights Belal Muhammad and Elizeu Zaleski has been verbally agreed to for September 22 at UFC Sao Paulo.
MMA Fighting confirmed the news Thursday following an initial report by Brazilian outlet AG Fight. Contracts for the bout have yet to be formally signed.
Muhammad (14-2) is in the midst of the best run of his UFC career. The 30-year-old Roufusport product has won four straight fights, a streak highlighted by victories over Tim Means, Jordan Mein, and Dana White Lookin’ For a Fight alum Randy Brown. Muhammad most recently defeated Chance Rencountre this past June in a short-notice encounter at UFC Utica.
Zaleski (19-5), likewise, is riding the best streak of his Octagon career — a five-fight run that culminated in a highlight-reel, spinning heel kick knockout over Sean Strickland at UFC 224. Known for his Capoeira background, Zaleski has also picked up UFC victories over notable names Max Griffin, Lyman Good, and Omari Akhmedov.
UFC Sao Paulo takes place September 22 at the Ginasio do Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A main event for the show has yet to be announced.
