Claudia Gadelha’s knee surgery deemed successful

Claudia Gadelha fixed her right LCL after defeating Carla Esparza.

Claudia Gadelha went under the knife on Wednesday morning to fix her right knee, and it was a success.

The UFC strawweight contender announced on her social media that she had a procedure done to fix her LCL, an injury sustained prior to her UFC 225 victory over Carla Esparza earlier this month.

It’s still unclear how long the Brazilian will be sidelined from training.

Surgery was successful guys, big thank you my loved ones! Love you all!! Passando pra avisar para os meus que deu tudo certo na cirurgia. Amo vocês!

Gadelha told MMA Fighting days after the split decision victory that she hurt her knee less than two weeks before UFC 225 and needed to work with UFC Performance Institute physiotherapist to make sure she was able to compete in Chicago.

Gadelha vs. Esparza was five years in the making, since the Brazilian was forced out of a pair of fights with “The Cookie Monster” back in their Invicta FC days. Esparza accused her longtime rival of cheating and greasing before UFC 225 and asked for a rematch, and Gadelha said she doesn’t mind fighting her a second time.
