Dana White: UFC looking into ‘very serious’ incident between Cris Cyborg, Angela Magana

LAS VEGAS — No decision has been made by the UFC regarding a punishment for Cris Cyborg after she punched Angela Magana on Sunday. But the promotion is treating it as a significant situation, UFC president Dana White said Tuesday at the Ultimate Fighter 26 tryouts at Palace Station.

“Obviously, we’re looking into that and it’s very serious,” White said. “We’ll see what happens. This is the thing that the district attorney and the police are handling right now. There’s way more to that than just what am I thinking about it.”

Cyborg was cited for misdemeanor battery by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on Monday, police public information officer Larry Hadfield confirmed with MMA Fighting. She’s facing a court date, depending on whether or not the district attorney decides to pursue charges against her. Misdemeanor battery carries a penalty of six months in jail.

Cyborg, 31, confronted Magana about social-media posts Magana has made about her in the past during the UFC Athlete Retreat on Sunday here in Las Vegas. The one that set her off, sources said, was when Magana made fun of Cyborg’s looks in a photo showing Cyborg visiting children in a hospital for people battling cancer.

Video of Cyborg seemingly punching Magana in the face surfaced on Cage Pages on Monday.

More than 300 fighters were on hand at the retreat, which included a speech by Kobe Bryant and a concert from Snoop Dogg.

Cyborg addressed the incident in a statement posted to her Facebook on Monday night and made a thinly veiled reference to White.
