Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 620-hp
Enco Exclusive has introduced a new tuner package for the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4, giving it more power and a somewhat calssier look than the standard model.
Finished in matte-black, the Enco Exclusive Gallardo LP 560-4 carries a new carbon fiber GT3 front bumper, front splitter, rear spoiler, GT3 design side skirts, carbon fiber boot cover and carbon fiber finishes on the rear diffuser, mirrors, lid vents and interior.
The power upgrades gives the 5.2L V10 a total of 620-hp and a maximum torque of 424 lb-ft. No performance specs were released but we’re guessing it’s not thing short of impressive.

Fighting Bull
At a time when most designers swear by curves and shapes which flow and merge, the Lamborghini Gallardo created by Belgian stylist Luc Donckerwolke dropped in 2003 like the proverbial bomb. Look for curves in this vehicle and – except where they are technically essential – you will look in vain. Edges and corners define the front, sides and tail. Donckerwolke’s courage in producing such clear-cut shapes and his ability to combine them in a harmonious whole has earned him the renowned red dot design award for the Gallardo and its big brother Murcielaga, which has been following the same design concept since 2001.
As time went on, the sports car manufacturer from Sant’ Agata, Bolognese, launched a range of Gallardos including an open-top Spyder and the lightweight and high performance “Superleggera”. In 2008, the Italian firm finally carried out some fundamental technical and optical modelling on its “small” sports car, also improving the styling even further. The front section of the V10 racer, now known as the Gallardo LP 560-4, has since been even more aggressive.
Known for its stylish finishing, ENCO Exclusive from the Saxon town of Chemnitz has now created a customised carbon fibre glove for the Gallardo LP 560-4’s lean mean body. The GT3 design front bumper is 100% carbon fibre and has three large gills on each side where the fibre strands are clearly visible. Two additional carbon fibre finish aerodynamic components are available to fit both this and the series bumper: the front splitter and the rear spoiler. The GT3 side skirts may be unobtrusive, but they make the Lamborghini as a whole appear even bigger and stronger. The boot cover for this mid-engine racer- what in normal cars is the engine hood – is also ultra-lightweight but highly resilient carbon fibre. The rear diffuser, wing mirrors and air vents in the boot lid are finished in carbon fibre laminate. Top quality matt foil adds the finishing touches, giving the angular Gallardo the look of a stealth fighter plane. ENCO Exclusive has also had a field day with carbon look laminate in the interior. The inlay on the wheel, the cover on the central console and dashboard and the handbrake shine in silvery black – as do the door handles and openers.
Enco has also been at work on the 5.2 litre V10 engine. After some serious power treatment, the ten cylinder with its menacing roar now reaches not 560, but an impressive 620HP. The maximum torque is now up from 540 to 575 Newton metres.
Bloodhound SSC land-speed record car will make 135,000-hp
A little more than a year ago, we reported about something called the Bloodhound project, a group headed by Richard Noble and Andy Green that is working on a vehicle that can hit a top speed of 1,050 mph. The duo is out to beat their own record, and the current land-speed record, of 766 mph.
How is the project coming along? According to Inside Line, the Bloodhound gang has finally agreed on a power source for their car, known as the SSC. The base of the vehicle will be built to take a force of 50,000 radial g while supporting a 6.5-ton car traveling up to 1,050 mph – that’s 1.4 times faster than sound. Power will come from a 900-pound hybrid rocket that will be positioned at the rear of the SSC combined with a EJ200 jet engine. That will allow the Bloodhound SSC to produce 47,500 pounds of thrust – equal to 135,000 horsepower (yes, we’d love drive something that fast as well).
The project, based out of Bristol, is being sponsored by engine care brand STP and is being supported by over 2,410 primary and secondary schools, 178 colleges and 33 universities.
Where will the Bloodhound group run their land-speed record run? On Verneukpan in South Africa – a 10-mile-long flat with a mile of runoff at each end. The run is scheduled for 2011.
GM’s turnaround fueled by hot products
October saw the first monthly sales gain in almost two years for GM, according to Detroit News. The Detroit automaker has slashed costs by almost $30 billion and has brought itself to a pot where it expects to start repaying federal loans next month.
These are all great signs, but in order to post a solid comeback, GM has to work on reclaiming sales and market share losses, and reshaping buyer perceptions so that they will look past the bankruptcy. They must also get their management team set in place and deliver on a number of promised products, including the Chevrolet Volt, Cruze, Camaro, Buick Regal, and Cadillac CTS Coupe.
GM has also been aggressive on the marketing front, as they have recently appointed Julie Heisel to lead a customer retention project geared towards those who have bought from brands and dealerships that have been closed or phased out. They are also focusing on measures intended to improve the resale value of their vehicles, one sticking point that drives purchasers away.
Despite the the bankruptcy, GM’s global market share is on the rise, but they need to put out hot products as they brace for a drop in global industry volume from 67.8 million units to 65.4 million units this quarter.
