Lindsay Lohan was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Saturday morning after her Mercedes convertible struck a curb on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. Police reported that they also found a substance they believe to be cocaine at the scene, according to an Associated Press report.

Lohan, 20, and two other unidentified people were in the actresses’ 2005 Mercedes SL-65 when it crashed at around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday. It appeared she had been speeding and when police responded to a 911 call about the accident, the AP reported that officers found a “usable amount” of a drug they tentatively identified at the scene as cocaine. Music and fashion mogul Russell Simmons and his wife have filed a libel action against the publishers of In Touch magazine, but details of how the pair was allegedly maligned by the celebrity weekly are not contained in a court filing. In a New York State Supreme Court summons, Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons name Bauer Publishing and In Touch’s two top editors as defendants in what is described as “an action for libel.” However, the court file does not contain a corresponding complaint, which would normally detail allegations made by the plaintiff.

Paula Abdul Falls Straight Down

May 22, 2007 · Filed Under Entertainment · Comment

Paula Abdul has always had a soft spot for the underdog.

The American Idol judge took a bad fall over the weekend while trying to avoid trampling one of her pooches and wound up with a broken nose and a fractured toe, her rep told E! News.

“She tripped to avoid stepping on Tulip, one of her Chihuahuas,” the rep said. “She is fine. This will have no effect whatsoever on her appearance on American Idol tomorrow and Wednesday for the finale.”

The rep added that Abdul was not hospitalized for her injuries and that the dog was unharmed.

In addition to her broken nose and fractured toe, Abdul complained of bruises from the fall.

“I bruised myself on my arm…my chest, my waist all the way down to my hip. All from my little chubby Tulip,” she told Extra.

Since beginning her tenure as an Idol judge, the “Forever Your Girl” singer has suffered through a series of unusual injuries and ailments.

‘He just threw a glass bottle at me,’ Jaclyn Nesheiwat said in hysterical call

The wife of former Creed frontman Scott Stapp pleaded for authorities to come to the couple’s home over the weekend, according to a 911 tape released Tuesday.

“He just threw a glass bottle at me,” Jaclyn Nesheiwat said in a hysterical call Sunday. “He just came home, he’s wasted … he’s been out partying all night.”

She told the dispatcher Stapp was “on drugs and pot. There’s a lot of pot in the house.”
Nesheiwat also said Stapp had guns in the home. Asked how many, she said: “I don’t know, a lot … I don’t know, five or 10.”

No one was injured.

Stapp was arrested Sunday and initially charged with aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony. The charge was reduced to a misdemeanor Monday.

Before police arrived, Nesheiwat called 911 again.

“He’s hiding all the drugs,” she said. “He’s still under the influence right now.”

Bono: Dismantle Smoke Bomb

May 16, 2007 · Filed Under Entertainment, Music News · Comment

It’s not the unforgettable fire that’s got Bono worried. It’s the smoke.

Taking time out from saving the world, the U2 frontman has launched a new campaign literally more close to home—i.e., to rid his Manhattan penthouse from the unwelcome, potentially toxic plumes wafting in from neighbors’ fireplaces.

Bono, whose real name is Paul Hewson, owns a spacious duplex at the San Remo, the landmark 1930-era apartment building whose twin towers rise high above Central Park West and the New York residence of such stars as Steven Spielberg and Steve Martin.

‘Dog’ gone! CBS axes radio show after prank

May 14, 2007 · Filed Under Entertainment, Radio · Comment

The Don Imus effect took down more shock jocks yesterday after an Asian-mocking joke left CBS radio execs with another hole in their schedule.

CBS confirmed “The Dog House with JV and Elvis” show was canned permanently after an on-air prank call three weeks ago ordered “slimp flied lice” from a Chinese restaurant.

The show’s on-air hosts, Jeff Vandergrift and Dan Lay, were suspended as CBS decided their future.

” ‘The Dog House with JV and Elvis’ will no longer be broadcast,” said CBS Radio spokeswoman Karen Mateo.

“In the wake of the Imus case, it would have been maddening to the community if these idiots did not get fired,” said Queens City Councilman John Liu.
